ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces Haleema Bharoocha and other Muslim women who struggled to call out Muslim men's bad behavior despite their manipulations of Islam to blame women for what befalls them. Haleema Bharoocha spoke out about sexual harassment on Vimeo, the professional video platform, on May 10, 2018—just before graduating from Seattle University at the age of 19. Bharoocha's introduction to sexual harassment began when she attended the Magnolia Science Academy, a private Turkish charter school with roughly 50 percent Muslim students. When Bharoocha attended college, she became active in social justice work against gender-based violence and Islamophobia that continues to inform her graduate studies and career ambitions. The chapter discusses the legacy of September 11th and Islamophobia. The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 irrevocably changed the cultural landscape for Muslim women and those trying to help them.
