ABSTRACT

The intense academic and professional discussions are currently dedicated to “transformative tourism” which overcomes the phenomena of the recent crisis years and sees itself as survivable and sustainable. This requires a resilient and agile tourism management. On the one hand, de-growth strategies, i.e. shrinking approaches of the industry, are demanded. On the other hand, the question arises as to how sustainability and resilience can also be combined with growth strategies and competitiveness. Against this background, this article derives and outlines the strategic approach to resilience agility, which takes into account both innovation and sustainable transformation aspects, and addresses the issue of strengthening all network structures at a destination. The present conceptual study highlights that sustainable growth that serves to strengthen resilience is achieved in the context of synergetic network design of all stakeholders; and through the stronger involvement of residents, as well as sensitisation of guests. The integration of different resilience models leads to a new strategic approach, based on a new definition of resilience agility which the current contribution presents.
