ABSTRACT
Vernacular heritage and climate change may have typically been seen as two different areas of study. However, the two share many common aspects. Although the connection between the two had not been previously established, some shared concepts, such as resilience, disaster risks, and climatic factors, have always been core topics of discussion in these fields. This chapter focuses first on the key definitions and concepts in the two fields. Considering the changing climate and landscapes, this chapter then focuses on the challenges that vernacular heritage sites face. It further discusses relevant theories from scholarly works in managing climate change and disaster risks on vernacular heritage.
