ABSTRACT

This chapter provides practical guidance for student teams to plan implementation of a study outdoors once a question and (optionally) hypotheses have been identified. Guidance is provided on how much to measure via determination of an appropriate sample size and set of sites. Further guidance is provided on developing protocols (plans for what to do) and checklists (lists of objects to bring) that optimize student use of time outdoors. Last, guidance is provided on identifying roles for students within groups that support inclusive participation for all learners while also maximizing the quality and quantity of data collected.
