ABSTRACT
This introductory chapter situates the book within its academic and professional context. It offers a generic depiction of audiovisual translation as both an academic discipline and an umbrella term to refer to a variety of professional practices. There is a strong emphasis on the changing nature of audiovisual translation studies, especially as regards technological advancement, as well as on the need for more education-related scholarship.
