ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the teaching of audiovisual translation practices with a special emphasis on the higher education setting. The discussion covers the main theoretical foundations of today’s higher education provision as well as the role played by distance education and quality evaluation systems. The chapter delves into the body of scholarship that explores the learning and teaching of translation, including academic attempts at defining translation competence as well as current approaches to translation assessment. The specificities of teaching AVT practices nowadays are discussed to set the stage for further discussion on what is in store for the training of the next generation of AVT specialists.
