ABSTRACT

The first chapter presents the aim of this book, which is to analyse the memory politics of the anti-communist underground in contemporary Poland. It discusses the significance of memory politics in the context of Polish nationalism. It specifies the research agenda in the context of the current state of research. It asks why the right wing transformed the underground into an ideologically and emotionally charged symbol of ‘cursed soldiers’. It discusses the methods used during the research and looks at the type of data obtained and how they were used in the book. It also introduces the structure of the book and the main lines of argumentation.
