ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the reception of memory politics. It focuses on the meanings and emotions associated with the reception of the symbolism of ‘cursed soldiers’. It unveils the main patterns of interpretations and types of experiencing in the context of hegemonic politics, presenting a kind of semiotic-emotional map of the grassroots reception of the symbolism of ‘cursed soldiers’ in Polish society. A relatively large amount of space is devoted to Belarusians whose historical experiences are in conflict with the hegemonic memory politics that glorifies partisans carrying out ethnic cleansing.
