ABSTRACT

The first of the empirical chapters describes an initiative to design and conduct a participatory agenda-setting process and a citizens' assembly on smart mobility in Lombardy. These activities are steps in the broader objective of Fondazione Giannino Bassetti to institutionalise principles and methods of deliberative democracy and to anchor them in Lombardian research and innovation (R&I) governance. This chapter will be supplemented with an account of researchers from Fondazione Giannino Bassetti about the Lombardian political system and the specific innovation culture with which attempts of establishing responsible R&I are being aligned.
