ABSTRACT
In Australia, the construction of toilets in buildings is governed by provisions in the National Construction Code, incorporated into state and territory law through building regulations. However, the Code and associated building regulations only stipulate toilets for women and men, leading to calls from trans and gender diverse advocates to ‘let us pee’. Responding to these calls, this chapter proposes amendments to Victorian building regulations to require all-gender toilets in certain public buildings. The accompanying regulatory impact statement argues that this would reduce discrimination against gender diverse people and improve their health, safety and wellbeing.
