ABSTRACT
This chapter gives a brief introduction to the book. It first presents and illustrates the concept of a hinge certainty. Next, it gives an overview of the book, explaining chapter by chapter how the book proceeds: First, it introduces hinges, certainties, and trust. Second, it argues that we are entitled to trust hinges to be true. Third, it raises the problem of demarcation for entitlement. Fourth, it introduces a novel account of virtue epistemology. Fifth, it explains how virtue epistemology can solve the problem of demarcation for entitlement. Finally, this introduction localises the book’s argument within the broader internalism-externalism debate.
