ABSTRACT

This chapter recapitulates the argument of this book. It first summarises the introduction of the concepts of hinge, certainty and trust in Chapter 1 and explains how they relate. Second, it recapitulates the argument of Chapter 2 that trust in hinges cannot be justified, but we are entitled to trust in them. Third, Chapter 3’s introduction of the problem of arbitrariness through bizarreness and relativism is reviewed. Fourth, the introduction of dual process virtue in Chapter 4 is recounted. Finally, Chapter 5 explains how virtue epistemology can solve the problem of demarcation for epistemic entitlement, as well as how closely these two accounts relate.
