ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the concept of a network before narrowing it down to construct the definition of a ‘transnational competition network’ (TCN). First, it discusses the concept of a network as it functions in the natural sciences and humanities. Then, it presents considerations on the concept of a network from the point of view of legal doctrine. As a result, the definition of a TCN is proposed. This definition has been constructed in tandem with an analysis of the main aims of TCNs. The general analysis is extended with a presentation of various network classifications, so as to better illustrate the diversity of the topic and to verify the usefulness of the definition as formulated.
