ABSTRACT
This chapter delves into the journey of designing an inclusive calm room within the National Gallery Singapore. In response to requests from community partners within the neurodivergent community, the Gallery embarked on a one-year process to engage stakeholders and to apply the principles of Inclusive Design. This process included appointing a local autistic artist-researcher as a Community Consultant, conducting focus groups with community stakeholders, and designing a Sensory Probe Kit. Since its opening in June 2022, the Gallery Calm Room has been well-received, exemplifying its positive impact on visitors. This chapter unveils the power of creating inclusive spaces and the Gallery’s commitment to accessibility.
