ABSTRACT

This concluding chapter pulls on threads discussed throughout Police Custody in Ireland focusing on the need for data-driven policies and interventions in the context of garda custody; the need to provide additional supports and safeguards for particularly vulnerable persons; the need for financial and regulatory support to ensure the complete fulfilment of individual’s rights; the need to see the garda station through fresh eyes as a place where different professionals come to work, not merely as the domain of An Garda Síochána; and the need for a new, more open approach to research on operational policing in Ireland.
