ABSTRACT
In light of the previous chapters, Chapter 7 emphasizes the book’s research-oriented audience by synthesizing the theoretical and practical implications of the single chapters and the core notions of censored (concealed, retouched) and sensored (blockchain-secured) luxury. The chapter starts with an up-to-date assessment of Swiss luxury watchmaking and takes a broader perspective on the findings, synthesizing the various theoretical angles discussed in the single chapters (including aesthetics of labour, conspicuous consumption, Gestalt theory, ethical theory, functional theories of attitudes, and surveillance studies). Consequently, the chapter highlights the contributions offered to the broader field of luxury studies, given that current transformations triggered by censored and sensored luxury are changing luxury understandings and bringing novel ethical implications.
