ABSTRACT

In this chapter, a stepwise plan is presented to analyse governance networks using the insights from the previous chapters. It provides a full and integrated way in which to analyse all the main components of governance networks addressed in this book. In doing so, it offers students and practitioners a guide – including clarifications at each step on how to perform the analysis – to help them to study and understand governance networks in practice. In this chapter, it is argued that an analysis of governance network processes consists of three main interrelated components: first, an actor analysis, which assesses actors’ perceptions, resources, and interdependencies; second, a process analysis, in which the decision-making arenas, the course of the decision-making process, the implemented network management strategies, and the (preliminary) outcomes are studied and evaluated; finally, a network analysis, assessing actors’ interaction patterns, that helps to identify trust patterns and the institutional rules in the governance network.
