ABSTRACT
In this concluding chapter, first a short recapitulation of the theoretical approach to network governance is offered. It highlights the main characteristics of governance networks and summarises the three complexities substantive, strategic, and institutional that make decision-making processes so complex. Then, this chapter presents a systematic elaboration of the main theoretical assumptions of this book. These can be used both in analysing network governance processes and in academic research on governance networks. This chapter concludes with an overview of what governance network research has to say about some of the core concepts and assumptions in this book and of the theoretical and empirical questions that are still open for research and debate.
