ABSTRACT

In this chapter, peer teacher learning is presented as one of three major learning positions in collective peer teaching. First, it is characterized by a strong social motivation, but also increased feeling of stress and performance anxiety. Second, it requires the use of higher-order teaching skills, involving both several different learning strategies in planning and enacting the lesson. Third, this is an iterative learning process, moving through three phases: the lesson preparation phase, the lesson enactment phase, and the lesson evaluation phase. Fourth, it involves not only learning of the subject matter but also the development of different professional skills. In combination, these characteristics fit well with many definitions of deep learning.
