ABSTRACT
An example of a study that used composite narratives to present research findings is outlined in this chapter. This grounded theory study aimed to generate substantive theory about how students experience their teachers’ expectations of them. Iterative grounded theory of the Straussian (Strauss, 1990) tradition was used to generate 24 main research findings from the data, which included more than 100 interviews of students and 175 classroom observations of their interactions with their teachers. The 24 narratives that were constructed to represent the findings are presented as examples of composite narratives in this book.
