Introduction

This chapter situates the book in the literature on Social Europe and defines the main empirical and theoretical puzzles we seek to address. It also details the changes in social conditions across the EU over the past two decades, outlining the contours of the social crisis of Europe. The last part provides a summary of our research design and methodological approach, followed by an overview of the book’s contents.
