ABSTRACT
This chapter explores what might be achieved by adopting an expansive view of the contribution of research to literacy education in line with Law’s call for generosity in research. This involves being open to thinking and knowing in different ways and to understanding how different kinds of knowledge themselves act on the world they seek to explore. The chapter includes a series of practical recommendations designed to work against the tide, to open out discussion, and to canvas for acknowledging expansive notions of literacy and research. These include attention to: criticality, compelling communications, meeting places and empowering and enabling spaces. These recommendations are offered as possibilities for enabling and empowering teachers to work with and through research and inquiry to develop, understand, critique and imagine primary literacy education that is fit for children’s current and future lives.
