ABSTRACT

The beginnings of Waldorf pedagogy in Slovenia date back to 1989, when the Kortina Association was formed with the aim of spreading Waldorf pedagogy and its anthroposophical teachings. These were initially aimed at education, healing education, biodynamic agriculture, and anthroposophical medicine, but, since then, Waldorf pedagogy has spread mainly in the direction of an alternative pedagogical concept, according to which many private kindergartens and schools operate. Certain elements of Waldorf pedagogy have been transferred to public kindergartens and schools, but otherwise both the public and academics mainly emphasise the difference between the intellectualism of the public school and the artistic approach of the Waldorf school. The main criticism is that the Waldorf school relegates intellectual goals to the background, making logical thinking, knowledge, and intellectual competition in school irrelevant. Waldorf education in Slovenia operates in more or less closed circles within its institutions and social network. Training courses, seminars, workshops, events, and open days are mostly published on the websites of Waldorf schools and kindergartens, institutes, and associations and are therefore aimed primarily at supporters of Waldorf education and the associated way of life.
