ABSTRACT
This chapter evaluates complex character of the European Union (EU) approaches, strategic views and policy orientations towards Israel. It claims that throughout the European integration process, a specific European stance towards Israel has been guided first and foremost by certain normative principles and objectives. However, recently, the normative approach has been strongly influenced by geopolitical considerations. The chapter addresses both the changes of the Union’s rhetoric and the EU policy orientation towards the developments in Israel. The analysis focuses on the European perspective and aims to better understand the examined policy’s evolutionary character, its outcomes and consequences for the EU’s external relations and international actors.
