ABSTRACT
Chapter 4 describes the researchers’ process of identifying four key elements of flow in writing and developing the corresponding rating system for evaluating flow. Additionally, this chapter presents the rubrics for evaluating flow in writing, defines each element in the rubric, and relates these elements to past scholarly discussions of flow, as presented in Chapter 1. Finally, the chapter draws on the insights from using the rating system and rubric to analyze student writing to offer a preliminary framework for teaching and evaluating flow in the classroom. This chapter concludes that the framework provides an approachable way to help students see and conceptualize the various elements that contribute to the felt sense of flow within a piece of writing.
