ABSTRACT
It is next that we shall not steal from others. Now, it can be told that if someone steals food who is unable to get work to support themselves, and so, on account of hunger, saves their life, that theft is by no means worthy of punishment. And if the person who is able to work to support themselves steals the equivalent of one ounce – someone who was not previously convicted of such things – then they are to be brought to the assembly, and they are to redeem their skin from flogging by paying three marks of silver to the king.
