ABSTRACT
This chapter examines how staff respond to institutional structures in ways that support boundary-crossing capacities: working across technical systems, organisational constraints, and disciplinary divisions. Through four vignettes, the chapter explores bottom-up approaches to expanding access, where staff adjust routines and reconfigure roles to make better use of digitised collections. These cases show that reaching wider audiences depends on the ability to move beyond fixed boundaries, whether related to public engagement policies or longstanding hierarchies of value in the heritage sector. Such efforts point to both the adaptability of GLAM digital infrastructures and the tensions that emerge in their day-to-day use.
