ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the problem of youth anti-social behaviours and to this effect, dissects the issues of alcohol and drug use, and risky sexual behaviours by the youth. We look at the history of the studies that examined the problem of mental health of youth in general and their alcohol and drug use in particular, of how they evolved from mainly descriptive studies to explanatory studies. We conclude that these studies which began in the late 1980s and early 1990s about two decades after the youth’s involvement in national politics, continue in contemporary society due to the persistence of the problem among today’s youth.
