ABSTRACT
In this Arabian story, an old fisherman opens a bottle and accidentally releases a gigantic Djinn who immediately announces his plan to kill the old man. The story dramatizes one of our fundamental problems today: the sudden, incomprehensible irruption of repressed, murderous rage against innocent bystanders. The details of the story help explain the psychology of terrorism today, from lone shooters killing school children to groups organized around murdering their ideological opponents. Fortunately, Part II of the tale in the next chapter, reveals a surprising resolution to the deadly conflict.
