ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces quilted methodology that embraces non-textual forms of research and research result dissemination – drawing particular attention to the critique of repetitive door-to-door household survey methods used in the aftermaths of disasters and emphasising instead a careful crafting of relationships through convivial ethnography and care through praxis of મેઙ઼ાવો (meḍavo, dialogue, or consultation in Kachchhi language) and શ્રુતી (śruti, knowledge that has been listened to in Kachchhi language) practice. The chapter proposes a shift from violence to that of ethical care in research and includes decisions to withdraw from such research processes that cause harm. The authors suggest careful crafting of relationships, responsibility towards those who have participated in research with them, and at times, care requires storing some of the patches, or pieces of work, for later use, or returning them unused.
