ABSTRACT
Dr Sara Ellis loves her work and is completing her specialist training. But a few years ago, she made a mistake with a medication dose that may have hastened the death of a very sick patient. The traumatic incident left her feeling deep shame for years. She’s telling her story to help other trainees avoid a similar medical error, to encourage humility, and to recognize the benefits of peer support in coping with their emotions in response to bad outcomes and stressful clinical events.
