ABSTRACT
As Dr Luis Ramos says, his “tale is worthy of a telenovela!” Now a distinguished neurologist, he recalls a story from medical school that he didn’t dare discuss for a couple of decades due to the stigma surrounding neurological conditions. As a young medical student, he was told that he only had a few weeks to live because of a deadly brain cancer. Of course, the diagnosis was wrong! He tells his story now as a warning to other physicians to check the facts before giving bad news. His experience of being a patient forever influenced how he treats his patients.
