ABSTRACT
Dr Basim Amin was born and raised in poverty in conflict-ridden Uganda, where slaughter and kidnapping were everyday realities. But with a hard-working and loving mother as a role-model and excellent education and inspired career guidance, he became a physician. After meeting neurologists from the United States, he possessed the imaginative courage and fortitude to further his medical experience in the United States. He has been in the United States for the past two years, training as a neurology resident at a large teaching hospital. This story deals with resilience, racism, and acculturation.
