ABSTRACT

Dr Cindy Volta is a primary care physician in her mid-30s who is deeply in touch with her emotions and memories. She got married in medical school and knew she wanted children. She realized that there would be no “good” time to have a baby so she chose to have her first child when she was still an intern. Working long shifts while pumping breast milk in her breaks didn’t make for easy work-life integration! Then, in her senior year of residency she was pregnant again, but because of work commitments she delayed getting a scan until the pregnancy was 23 weeks along. Sadly, the baby had severe deformities and Dr Volta had to make difficult decisions. She has never got over the grief of losing that baby and now talks about reproductive life planning with all her younger female patients. Dr Cindy Volta is a primary care physician in her mid-30s who is deeply in touch with her emotions and memories. She discusses the importance of pregnancy planning and breastfeeding while working long shifts as an intern, and the later, devastating loss of another baby.
