ABSTRACT

Dr Grace Lakeland exemplifies the best qualities of a physician. She is a general surgeon, accomplished, hardworking, caring, and a team player who loves her work. But when she was training, bullying, sex discrimination, and racism nearly made her give up her chosen career. Professional success has come at a high price for Dr Lakeland. She works very long hours and she could never find time to have children. However, she now finds fulfillment doing charity work, particularly in the poorly developed medical system in Haiti. Now she mentors other young women throughout her hospital system giving them sort of support that she once desperately needed and advise to have their children early rather than later in order to avoid infertility.
