ABSTRACT
Dr John Sutton is a young physician who was supervising a large team of junior doctors when the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the major cities of the United States. He describes living through those terrifying, chaotic days and making life and death decisions based on sketchy information and little sleep. He describes feeling responsible for things out of his control, uncertainty, witnessing death, and being forced to prohibit family members from being at the bedside of gravely ill and dying patients. But during it all, he felt the support of his hospital leadership and a camaraderie with his colleagues.
