ABSTRACT

The chapter describes the socio-economic context that requires educational institutions and educational leaders to undergo digital transformation. This context is defined by three megatrends: demographic change, globalisation and technological advancement itself. The chapter also presents the concept of Industry 4.0, also called the Fourth Industrial Revolution, that is defining today's world of work together with competences 4.0, or competences of the future, and their consequences for education. Finally, the chapter presents the idea of networked organisations from the scientific point of view on management, which provides an insight into broader ecosystems in which innovations such as digital transformation may effectively develop. The concept of relational and network paradigms in the science of management, as well as the idea of strategic management imbedded in these paradigms together with their manifestation in European cooperation projects, is presented here.
