Introduction

Large-scale hunting adaptations in Southwest and Central Asia and North America developed very similar trap designs regardless of the culture’s age or the animals hunted. This chapter introduces the present book’s subject components with a brief review of the topics and concepts to be discussed herein. The vastness in space and time and the extraordinary diversity of cultures, landscapes, and animals found across these two continents is transcended by a singular concept of independently invented trapping systems.
