ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the phenomenon of Southwestern and Central Asian kites and discusses those regions’ settings and environmental conditions in their principal areas. The main target species for each area are presented along with eyewitness accounts of kite use, including citations from original diaries. Lastly, kites petroglyphs in those areas are discussed with a particular focus on those in which the kite’s shape and/or the target animals are identifiable.
