ABSTRACT
In this introduction to W. J. T. Mitchell’s chapter, Davidsson provides an overview of the key topics of Mitchell’s text and the following discussion. The introduction reads as a guide to the following chapter and discusses, among other things, Mitchell’s views on the meeting between the artwork and the audience, which Davidsson argues touches on something that is missing, or perhaps under-developed, in Elleström’s model, namely the importance of the active viewer.
