ABSTRACT
In the context of migrations and the refugee crisis, the objects that migrants carry with them are very important. Objects tell stories about the journey and about the personal history of the migrant. This chapter sees migrant objects (shoes, photographs, food, clothes, and others) as tools that translate emotions, fears, ways of life. Objects are examples of tangible translations, of translationality, of translatio. The chapter offers many examples of artists who use translation in works that deal with contemporary migratory processes. In the final section it focuses on the artwork of Mona Hatoum.
