ABSTRACT
Rift Table is a speculation about the role of objects in creating forms of interiority connected to regional contexts and materials. The purpose of the work is to begin to question how designers can rethink the material world in light of the challenges posed by climate change. Using a small table design as a beginning, Nathan Smith proposes to reconsider the next generation of objects through their capacity to produce forms of interiority that connect uses to regional systems of agriculture and production. Here, hemp is proposed as a renewable and flexible resource linked to the emerging agricultural economy in the state of Kentucky.
