ABSTRACT
This chapter shows how to use visuals as strategic tools in science communication. It encourages scientists to see visual literacy as a core communication skill. Readers learn how to apply graphic and user-centered design principles to create visuals that clarify complexity, connect with diverse audiences, and foster engagement. The chapter emphasizes that good visuals do more than convey data—they tell stories, evoke emotion, and shape perception. It also highlights the risks of poor design and the importance of audience feedback, pre-testing, and accessibility. From choosing effective color palettes to leveraging AI-generated imagery, this chapter equips communicators to design visuals that inform, resonate, and inspire action.
