ABSTRACT
This chapter outlines a ‘futuring’ class in large lecture theatre spaces, based on the unfolding chaos of a pandemic, floods, rumours, and the consideration of new business growth opportunities in a newly forming leadership team. Set in a business school context, the provocative performance integrates ideas around enacting sustainability, leadership, teams, equality and diversity, strategic decision-making, and the fragilities of our immediate intuitive responses under pressure. The aim of the provocative experience is to generate practical awareness of the different foresight practices under situations of uncertainty and ambiguity, i.e. knowing how what a person does in the moment may impact the future. Students describe the process as highly interactive and engaging, and evidence suggests it impacts various factors which motivate behaviour change.
