ABSTRACT
This intermezzo unpicks different aspects of extractive processes. It introduces neoliberalism as a concept and highlights key features of advanced capitalism. Drawing on Elizabeth Povinelli's concept of geontopower, it details how extraction and advanced capitalism affect humans, non-humans, and multispecies kin, where some (bodies) become more affected than others. It provides examples of extraction, where materials, the natural world, and people are subject to extractive processes via human and non-human intervention. This extraction also includes ‘Artificial Intelligence’ or AI that has been extracting literary sources, including books and academic journal articles, without author permission.
