ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we bring the outcomes of interpretive description studies back into the wider domain of advancing evidence for applied practice. Here we reflect on what it means to make evidentiary claims within our various disciplines and sites of practice and, therefore, how best to position interpretive description study findings, as well as the methodology writ large, within those disciplinary conversations. This allows us to thoughtfully consider how interpretive description can most productively be deployed to complement that which can be known on the basis of other research approaches so that we are best positioned to make a distinctive and meaningful contribution to the evolving scientific knowledge in our fields.
