ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we consider the application of interpretive description within the mixed methods approach to answering research questions. The pragmatic nature of interpretive description makes it well suited to being taken up by researchers in applied fields for whom some elements of their program of inquiry would benefit from a qualitative angle of vision. Here we overview the general context of mixed methods research as it exists today, recognizing that it remains a conversation in progress within the methodological theorizing communities. We specifically reflect on the attributes of interpretive description that allow it to be effectively integrated within a wide range of mixed or multi-method contexts.
