ABSTRACT
Having set out the plan in the previous chapter, here we guide the researcher through the beginning phases of data collection when you first encounter the people or processes you have set out to study. Since qualitative work typically involves in-depth human engagement, often under complex and challenging circumstances, entering the field for data collection requires that you thoughtfully reflect on the implications of your own actions and interactions at all times and understand and account for the impact that your enactment of the researcher role may be having on what you learn and the ultimate findings you are able to generate.
