ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we discuss what happens after you have entered the field and begun to fully engage in the process of data collection. As with all complex processes, the doing of qualitative data collection inevitably confronts the researcher with many more nuances and challenges than will have been anticipated in the development of the formal proposal. We consider these kinds of challenges in relation to some of the more common data collection modalities and reflect on the implications of various strategic approaches to managing and organizing the data that derive from those processes so the stage can be well set for entering data analysis.
