ABSTRACT
This chapter outlines some fundamental theoretical perspectives that apply to the subsequent analyses of journalism. It discusses how narrative analysis can supplement other approaches, such as rhetorical analysis and discourse analysis, and how narrative analysis of journalistic texts differs from analysis of fiction literature. Building on a constructivist paradigm within narrative theory, the chapter gives a preliminary overview of how analysts can approach their material to achieve a critical and contextualised interpretation of journalistic narratives.
